How to play

Every day, five photos from around the Salt Lake Valley. For each one, tap the map where you think it was taken, then lock it in.

Your pin becomes a grid address, like 1300 E 2100 S. The closer you are in blocks (east–west plus north–south, the way locals count), the more points you earn, out of 1,000 per round. Land anywhere on the grounds of the place and the round is a perfect 1,000.

The grid

Salt Lake addresses are coordinates. Main Street is the zero line east–west and South Temple is the zero line north–south; they meet at the Base & Meridian marker on the corner of Temple Square. "1300 East" is thirteen blocks east of Main. "2100 South" is twenty-one blocks south of South Temple. Round 1 is somewhere recognizable downtown; round 5 is out in the valley.

The grid lines on the map are calibrated to real surveyed intersections, so they drift where the real grid does: downtown runs about 6⅔ blocks to the mile, the county grid 8.
